Tip 33: Temporary Dye Your Hair

Three months ago - 128 views
Tip 33: Temporary Dye Your Hair
So you want to put some color in your hair? You're young, now is the best time! You can do a streak(s), your ends, your underlayer, or your whole head!
___________________________________________

FIRST TIME DYING? Go to a local salon or beauty store and talk to the people there and get recommendations just to be safe :) Also, look up reviews of brands you use, watch tutorials or videos of other people doing it on youtube, and follow instructions on products!
__________________________________________________________________________________
PRODUCTS & INFO ON THEM SPECIFICALLY:

1. Temporary Dye

Where to get: Sally's, ULTA, CVS, Walmart, Hot Topic

Brands: Manic Panic, Splat, (those are the ones I know of off the top of my head!)

How to: Follow the Instructions on the bottle, you may have to bleach your hair first! It all depends on how you want the color to come out & how dark your hair is! If your hair is very dark, you will have to bleach it!

Warnings, Tips, Other: Be careful about it! Some colors come out weird on non-bleach blonde hair! Once, blue dye turned out green! And be careful about going to the pool during the summer! (Look up about that!)

2. Kool-Aid

Where to Get: Walmart, Target, Any Grocery Store,

Brands (Types): I've heard the unsweented ones aren't sticky when putting into to the hair and are suppose to be better!

How To: There are 2 ways,
-Pour a little bit of water into a pot and 2 packets of koolaid (the small ones that are .25 of 4/$1) and boil it. Then put it in a cup and leave the hair in it for 10-15 minutes
-Mix some koolaid with a tiny bit of water and conditioner and rub into hair.

Warnings, Tips, Other: WARNING - you are probably thinking, this will wash out within 1-2 showers right? NO. I did this 3 weeks ago using the boiling method and red kool-aid, and it is STILL in my hair. It's faded some, but still.

3. Comb-In

Where to Get: Hot Topic, Beauty Salon Stores (Sally's)

Brands: n/a

How to: Follow the instructions on the box, but get the comb and comb onto the hair desired! The ones from hottopic do wash out and they have tons of colors!

Warnings,Tips,Other: Do it on just cleaned hair so you can wear it for 2 days!

4. Spray-In

Where to Get: Sally's, Party City, Maybe Target/Walmart, Halloween Store

Brands: n/a

How to: Literally spray it on to your hair.

Warnings,Tips,Other: None that I know of!

___________________________________________

SPECIFIC LOOKS:

Dip-Dyed:
The best method I know for this is to split your hair in two sections (with your normal part that you use everyday) and braid it, putting the hairtie where you want the dye to stop. Then color the hair below it!
You can also just kind of "wing it"

Streak(s):
If you want to just do a streak in your hair or one on each side, etc. Put all you hair up leaving out the pieces you want to dye.

Coon-Tail:
This is a streak of hair, but striped with 2 colors, like a raccoon's tail. You can either use 2 different dyes, or use your natural hair color as one of the colors in between! Just simply make stripes on the strip of hair!

Underlayer:
Put up all your hair except the underneath of your hair that you want to dye. Simple as that!

Anything else you want me to add, just leave a comment/question below :)

And just fyi, this is just from experience, and watching others. Don't blame me if your hair doesn't come out as you wanted!

Tip 35: Growing Out Your Hair

Three months ago - 271 views
Tip 35: Growing Out Your Hair
So I know lots of us want that long, beautiful, tumblr-inspired hair right? Well why not work for it?

Start by drinking water. Such a simple thing to do! It hydrates your hair and makes it healthier. It also helps with clear skin, weight loss and it's 0 calories!

Try not to wash your hair daily, wear a shower cap when showering to avoid getting it wet. It drys out your hair when washing it too frequently.

Don't harshly brush your hair - try using a wide tooth comb if you can. Start from the ends, brushing the bottom, then moving up instead of the other way around. This is because lots of times people will start from their roots and get stuck before the bottom, then end up ripping out their hair.

Don't brush your hair when it's wet. Just don't do it. It's so prone to breaking, splitting and coming out. Brush before you get in the shower, to get rid of tangles before hand. Try using a wide tooth comb when letting conditioner sit in your hair. If it's necessary to brush it, use a wide tooth comb or boar bristle brush to be less harmful on your locks!

Try finding good shampoo + conditioners for your hair type. They have special damage repairing ones (although I don't know how they work) color treated, long hair, etc.

Try to use heat less, if not at all. If using heat, heat protectant is a MUST. Seriously, use it religiously, live by it.

Take Biotin. It's a supplement you can buy at several stores that helps strengthen hair & nails (2 in one!) I bought mine at Giant on sale for about $3 but they are generally $8-$10 for a bottle. Take that daily. Look for it on amazon, at Giant, CVS, Walgreens, Viatmin stores, etc. (Suggestions, I'm not positive ALL those stores sell it (: )

Use deep conditioner every once in a while to get softer, more manageable hair.

Look into more styles that don't require heat, on polyvore, youtube, google, etc. This will lessen the amount of times you use it on your hair, helping it grow healthier.

Although the hair grows from the root, get it trimmed every so often. Some people say 6 weeks, or every few months, but really it depends on how your ends are, and your hair type. If your hair is brittle, splitting, and breaking it's not going to be as long when you have to cut a ton of it off due to bad ends. It will look way better when it's neatly trimmed and no split ends!

Rinsing hair with cold water is suppose to help seal the cuticle, so when rinsing out shampoo and conditioner, turn the water to cold for a minute! You don't have to get your body wet from the cold water, just lean your head under.

Horse shampoo - Mane N' Tail is suppose to help make your hair grow stronger, healthier and shinier, you might want to look in to it, some people have had great results from using it!

Hope this helps, good luck in growing your gorgeous locks :)

Tip 34: Create an Inspiration/Memo Board!

Three months ago - 206 views
Tip 34: Create an Inspiration/Memo Board!
Hey guys! Here’s the tip I promised! :) Hope you guys like it, me and my friend made these last weekend! We got the idea from her mom, she had ordered one from etsy for $50, and we thought it was really cute, but wanted to pick our own fabric and get it cheaper, so we were like, I bet we could make it cheaper! It was actually fun and I absolutely love it! It looks so cute in my room! As you can see, I haven't filled it or hung it yet, but I'm getting there.v
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

What You Need:
-METAL SHEET ~ this is the actually board, the metal makes it so you can hang magnets! They sell them at Lowes and Home Depot! I got mine for $11.50 I believe. You want to get a thin one, or else it will be too heavy to hang on your wall! Get it as big, as small as you like! Ignoring the duct tape, this is what they look like: (http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l618/imcdonnell/MetalSheet01.jpg )
-GROMMETS ~ These are the little circular things at the top that you loop the ribbon through, if you don’t want to put those on, you would have to somehow mount your board, I’m not actually sure how, but there is defenitley ways to! But that’s how I did mine! I’m not positive how much they are, but they are under $10 I believe, for a pack of a bunch! (http://www.buygrommets.com/buygrommets/images/Subcatimages/stimpsongrommet245.gif)
- FABRIC ~ get any of your choosing, as long as it’s big enough for your board! I had to stay in my shopping center, so I went to Walmart to get mine, but if you want a variety I would suggest going to a craft store that sells it. (Michaels does not)
-HOT GLUE GUN + GLUE
-SPRAY ADHESIVE ~ to attach the fabric to your board, they come in cans that look like spray paint, and comes out like it, but it’s a glue and this will be easiest to use so your fabric doesn’t get wrinkles in it!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Cut your fabric to cover your board and keep excess to glue on the back so it’s sturdy.
Step 2: Iron your fabric to ensure there is no wrinkles, and lay flat, on a flat surface.
Step 3: Spray your metal sheet with lots of spray adhesive, and then lay on top of fabric, careful not to wrinkle it!
Step 4: Hot glue excess on back to the board as necessary.
Step 5: Follow instructions or look up how to get the grommets on the board (my friend’s dad did it!) you might want to get a parent to do this.
Step 6: Tie ribbon through the grommets and leave extra to pull above board to hang!
Step 7: Add pictures, quotes, notes, etc! You’re finished, super easy!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

OPTIONAL: MAKE YOUR OWN MAGNETS!!
My friend & I did this because we didn’t wanna go buy a small pack of magnets, and wanted to have ones that would match our room. We bought flat marbles, (although you could use the ball ones) and little fake flowers to attach to magnets. We got both all of it at Michaels, the magnets being about 5 for a big pack (we got little magnets and bigger, for lighter and heavier things), marbles were $1 for a pack and flowers were $.25!
Just simple hot glue magnets on the back of whatever you’re using!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope you guys liked this, I loveee mine :)

Tip 33: Back walkover

4 months ago - 224 views
Tip 33: Back walkover
Sorry its been ages since I've published a tip! I have lots of sets made for them in my drafts but just haven't published any in a while, so heres a little tip from my drafts for you guys :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. STRETCH. I can't explain to you how important this is. If you just try to go do the steps I'm about to explain to you without stretching (especially if you're not in gymnastics, cheer, etc.) then it will be extremely difficult and you could strain a muscle! Stretch your hip flexors (butterfly) legs (pike, straddle) and arms, wrists shoulders, as well as your back.

2. BRIDGE. If you can't do a bridge, do not even attempt to try this. That may sound harsh or blunt, but if you are not able to hold your wait with your arms, there's no way you will be able to do a back walkover! :)

3. HANDSTANDS. Practice doing some handstands, for as you can see in the middle picture in the set, you are basically doing one in the middle of the walkover.

4. BACKBEND. Before you will be able to go back and kickover in one fluid motion, you will need to be able to accomplish a backbend. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and put your arms above your head, and simply bend backwards until your hands are holding you in a bridge position. If you have never done this before/its diffifcult, have someone spot you with their hand/arm under your back in case you need extra support. Also, you can do it on a mattress, trampoline, pillows, etc.

4. Once you've got the bridge & backbend down (which does NOT happen in one day, it may take weeks before your back is flexible to do a backbend, I remember I hated waiting to get it, but don't force it! it will come!) you need to do a backbend kickover, which is basically just a slower version of a back walkover. Do your backbend, pause, then kickover. To kickover, simply push off with one leg on the ground and thrust your legs over your head. You can try it with a spotter, or do it off your bead, starting with your feet on it and then doing this. This is so you can get used to it and it takes less power from a higher surface, because your feet are already above you. Keep doing this from lower surfaces until you feel safe and ready enough to do it on the ground!

5. Now it needs to be one fluid motion, to accomplish this, try starting with your leg in the air before going backwards (1st picture) and then going back, it will be easier to kick over faster!

6. NOTE *** this is not a proffesional's advice, it's just my personal expierence from watching coaches, learning, etc. In no way should you sue me if you injure yourself :) Do this at your own risk and ability. If you've never done a backbend, dont try to just do a back walkover today. It could be over a month before you get this, even just a backbend, so PATIENCE MY FRIEND.
